Bajo cielos despejados, es posible ver entre 50 y 100 meteoros por hora, muchos de ellos brillantes y de larga trayectoria.
La mejor hora para ver la lluvia de estrellas es entre las 2:00 y las 5:00 h, aunque también pueden verse bastantes antes de la medianoche. Este fenómeno suele coincidir con otra cita astronómica: la Superluna de agosto, que llena el cielo de una luz plateada más grande y brillante de lo habitual.
